Mytherium Authors: Quinn McKenna

This week, my fellow Mytherium contributor, Quinn McKenna, was kind enough to spare a few moments to discuss influences, writing practices and vampires…

Tell us a bit about yourself, Quinn!

I’m 63, own two very adorable cats who are often my inspiration for either story or character. I have no significant other, have lots of friends, though my best best best friend passed away 2 years ago. She still pushes me to write. Now THAT’S a friend. I have three brothers in various areas of the USA and have a driving need to go to Ireland. I write because I love it, the word crafting and the development of the story line. I like to role play upon occasion, when I have time to devote to it.

The title of your story in Mytherium:

The Tattoo Artist.

Which creature did you choose as your subject matter and why?

Vampires because they intrigue me.

Your favorite thing about your own story?

My vampire, Michael.

Your favorite thing about the book as a whole?

I like all the other stories…so much different one from the other.

What made you want to be involved in this project?

Indi (the editor). She’s a good person and a dear dear friend. I wanted to see her succeed.

What genre do you usually write?

Gothic Horror.

Ever seen anything which you can’t explain?

Yes. LOL.

How long did it take you to write your story?

A while. I don’t set a timer. I had it started before Indi’s submission call, finished it close to the end of time, I think.

Favorite creature movie?

I like vampire movies, but I’m going to hold my final decision until after I see Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. That might alter my fav fictional character to Shadow Hunter. Can’t wait to see Jamie Campbell Bower in something other than Twilight.

What is your favourite book?

Oh, geez….there are so many. Um…Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels Trilogy, I think. A lot of my male characters are based on Daemon.

How do you write and where?

5 AM at home. I write in Google docs on the computer, because it auto corrects and at 5 AM, I need that. I also will write in the afternoon, depending on how busy I am.

One interesting thing people might not know about you?

I’m a tactile healer.

Where can readers find other examples of your work?

quinnmckenna.wordpress.com

Biggest influence on your work?

Ann Bishop, Anne Rice, my cats. Sometimes, Nora Roberts. Though I don’t really need inspiration for romance. My mind does quite well on that all by itself.

Why do you write?

It relaxes me…gives me an out for my very quick, very dangerous Irish temper. I can kill people who agitate me on paper…keeps me out of prison!

Thanks so much for your time, Quinn!

Mytherium is now available in paperback and e-formats from Amazon and Lulu.
